Design systems that compound

A design system is not a component library. It is a set of decisions made once, so that a hundred future decisions become automatic. When we audit failing systems, the pattern is always the same: the system documents what things look like, but not why. The first time reality disagrees with the file, people improvise, and the system starts rotting.

Rules, not artifacts

We ship guardrails instead of guidelines. A locked template that cannot be misused beats a 60-page PDF that nobody reads. For Izmir Blockchain, this meant volunteers producing on-brand assets weekly with zero designer supervision, because the templates made the wrong thing impossible.

The compound effect

Every asset built inside the system makes the next one cheaper and more consistent. That is the test we hold ourselves to: six months after handover, is the brand stronger or weaker than the day we left? If the system only works while we are in the room, we have failed.
